If you are working with Coding 4 Fun Toolkit in your next Windows Phone Mango app, you might get in trouble when using it side by side with the latest August Silverlight for Windows Phone Toolkit. It’s the next error that will keep bugging you:
File or assembly name 'Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit, Version=188.8.131.52, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B772AD94EB9CA604', or one of its dependencies, was not found.
Technically, a TypeLoadException when using a control from C4F Toolkit.
The problem here is obviously that the C4F Toolkit is dependent on the old build of Silverlight Toolkit.
The guys who are bringing you the C4F Toolkit are <span aware of the problem, and will release a fix (actually, “"pre-mango" build quickly followed by a "mango" build.”), but if you are like working on something at the moment and cannot wait, and need both toolkits, here are the steps that can help you:
- Download C4F toolkit source code
- Open the Solution
- Remove the reference to Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit version 184.108.40.206
- Add the reference Microsoft.Phone.Control.Toolkit version 220.127.116.11
- Build the solution
- Close Visual Studio
- Open your other project
- Remove the old C4F Toolkit build from that project
- Add the latest build (created in step 5)
That should keep you going until they release the official fixed build.
Both toolkit are great and very helpful to me. I keep using many of the controls from the C4F Toolkit, and I will definitely write more posts describing the possible uses of the controls.
